We have carrier representatives come to the office to teach various coverages throughout the year. These training sessions are approved by the Department of Insurance for continuing education. Thoits also brings in professional instructors quarterly to keep us up to date on current events in the insurance industry. In addition, we offer frequent in-house sessions to enhance our sales and service staff’s knowledge of standards and procedures. Campus Connection Thoits continues to participate in various campus job fairs and is also working with the San Jose State Spartans to increase local exposure and attract SJ State graduates. Internal Promotion Thoits prides itself on being an exemplar of “promotion from within”. Historically, we have made all efforts to train and promote our staff to provide challenge in their jobs and growth opportunities. We find that this philosophy gives our employees personal satisfaction and has significantly reduced employee turnover. Of our internal service staff, over 30% have been promoted from within. In addition to promoting support staff, we’ve also been “growing our own” sales staff as well. We carefully hire selected people and train them on the job, exposing them to a rigorous 3 track program, including a sales track, a technical track and an operations track. These sales trainees, affectionately known as “newbies”, spend 3-4 years in this process, expanding their technical and sales expertise while working with mentors and learning the day-to-day aspects of client service and our corporate operations.
